Já estaRcionou seu carro hoje? / Spelling FAIL

At some gas station, in Rio de Janeiro...
The painting on the wall says "No parking", in Portuguese. But in "ESTARCIONAR", that little "R" was definetely NOT supposed to be there! That's a spelling FAIL.

Feliz cada dia novo / Happy every new day

Every beginning of year, many people promise they will start a diet, stop smoking, pay more attention to their spending habits and so on. However, after a few months, despite all of the promises, nothing happens. This year, I found myself thinking about the real importance of this rite of passage and remembered a quote (think it was said by Caetano Veloso) on the subject: "To me, it's just one more day." - I asked myself if the moment, from December 31 to January 1, actually changes something in our lives.

It is clear there is a sense of renewal. A special meaning at the turn of the numbers and everything. The religious side is strongly marked at this time as well. But a year is lived every day. Upon wishing Happy New Year, we want every day of the people we love to be great, full of joy and happiness. But if we do nothing to make those wishes come true, there will be no such change. I think that what lacks in some people - and I do include myself in that, because I've taken part in that group - is to focus. To achieve the goals we want, we need to work each day, we must live each day in order to call this a good year.

I wish you all remember that one year is made of 365 days and not a day only. Let's make 2009 our year.

Happy days in the new year to all of us!

O jornalismo não é mais feito somente por jornalistas / Journalism is no longer a job for journalists only

In the recent tragedy caused by the heavy rains in Santa Catarina, the buzz on the Internet, mainly through Twitter, which showed the local peolple updating news about the conditions of the affected areas in that state, confirmed a trend to strengthen the role of citizenship through the use of social media networks. In the blog clicRBS a short post, but very well placed by Leonardo Corrêa, raises the question about the role of the citizen-journalism - proposed by the website journalism.co.uk.

I, myself, do believe Internet users will have greater participation in the production of content information spread on the web. Blogs are increasingly living proof of that. Artists, journalists (myself included), wannabe-celebrities, all now have their blogs and many times they do get the scoop on the news. It is up to the users to believe what they read and the sources that promote such content. Imagine what Twitter, blogs, flickrs, and such would have shown and reported on the tragic events of September 11, 2001? Even today, I remember a fact which happened here in Rio de Janeiro when a taxi driver reported a shooting live to a radio program called "Ronca Ronca". He came on live and the ratings hit a considerable level that day, as it generated a response from other listeners in that very moment.

I think the more traditional means of communication such as radio and TV, should also be devoted to a more local programming. Of course, such idea would find resistance due to the commercial strategy of the big networks which aims at higher profits, but - with all due respect to any Brazilian state - I do not have the slightest interest in a hole that causes problems on a street in the countryside. Like those who live in the country do not care much for the troubles of the big, city either.

Hyperlocalism is already a reality. The question is what is really important and what is not. What can not be devalued is the work of journalists, because they are more prepared to handle the news in a professional way. Journalists also must learn how to live with the content produced by bloggers, because these may be the next big thing in communication. Summing up, I guess the word in the communication business scene of today is coexistence.

Homens que poderiam ser lésbicas / Men who could've been lesbians

Eu sei. E um pouco preconceituoso, também. Mas, a idéia me garantiu boas risadas.

When I thought I had seen everything when it comes to blogging, I came across this "jewel of the Nile" called "Men Who Look Like Old Lesbians". That's it. It's a compilation of photos of dudes who have, how can I put this, something feminine in their look and - according to the blog -, they are dudes who look like lesbians in their 40's, 50's or more.

Among the selected "third-age lesbians" are musician Tom Petty, pop star Prince (why that????), philosopher John Locke (take a good look at his face and tell if the blog isn't right about him), singer Bob Dylan, F1 driver Kimi Räikkönen (watch out, Massa), former Fab4 Paul McCartney, actor Martin Short, and many others.

Useless. I know. And a bit prejudiced, as well. But, still it was worth some very good laughing.

Who do you think the blog is missing? In my opinion, Brazilian singer Milton Nascimento, in his Tracy Chapman phase, must be there. Don't you think?

Sapatada em Bush ganha a web - Shoe attack on Bush gets on the web

Sensacional.

The attack by an Iraqi journalist to the soon-to-leave-the-White-House U.S. President George W. Bush has already been parodied on the Internet, as shown in the blog Anarchy Nerd. The animation shows Bush as Neo, from the Matrix, dodging the flying shoes. Just awesome!
